Why I built Stu

When my wife and I bought our first home in the summer of 2025, we had no idea what we were getting into. Not the mortgage, not the inspections, but the systems. The furnace filters, the sump pump, prepping for Minnesota winters, the grading around the foundation. Things nobody tells you about until something breaks and a contractor asks, "when was this last serviced?" and you have no answer.

We figured it out slowly, through research, trial & error, and many evenings and weekends at Home Depot. And somewhere in that process, something shifted. We stopped feeling like guests in our own house and started feeling like owners. The kind who know which shutoff valve to turn first and have a log of every filter change and furnace inspection.

I wanted to help other first-time homeowners get to that feeling faster. To have a system, not a pile of sticky notes or a spreadsheet that gets ignored, that quietly reminds you what your house needs and builds a record of everything you've done. Something that helps you save money, gain real skills and agency, and feel the calm of knowing you have your house in order.

That's Stu. The name is short for steward, which is exactly what a good homeowner is. Someone who takes care of what they have, understands how it works, and passes it on in better shape than they found it.
