Why It Matters

Resin beads, brine valves, and venturi nozzles foul over time, reducing soft water output even when the salt tank is full.

Tools

  • Scoop or ladle
  • Shop vacuum

Materials

  • Water hardness test strips

How to Do It

  1. Locate the manual regeneration button or dial on the control head and start a cycle.
  2. While the cycle runs, inspect the brine tank for sediment or sludge accumulated beneath the salt.
  3. If sediment is present, scoop or vacuum it out from the bottom of the tank.
  4. Rinse the brine tank interior and brine valve with clean water to clear any remaining residue.
  5. Test your water's current hardness with a test strip or check your utility's annual water report, then update the softener's hardness setting if it no longer matches.
