Why It Matters

Garages collect dust, dirt, oil drips, and pests. A clean garage protects stored items and lets you spot leaks or rodent activity early.

Tools

  • Broom or leaf blower
  • Scrub brush
  • Garden hose
  • Mop or floor squeegee
  • Bucket

Materials

  • Degreaser

How to Do It

  1. Clear the floor by moving vehicles and portable storage items out of the way.
  2. Sweep or blow out all debris, working from the back of the garage toward the door.
  3. Apply degreaser to oil stains, let it soak, then scrub and rinse with a hose.
  4. Mop or squeegee standing water toward the drain or door and let the floor dry.
  5. Sort stored items and set aside any expired chemicals, paint, or pesticides for disposal.
  6. Take hazardous materials to a local household hazardous waste facility.
  7. Reorganize storage, checking for signs of leaks or rodent activity before moving items back in.
