Why It Matters

The bottom rubber seal blocks drafts, water, leaves, and pests. A cracked or gapped seal lets all of them into the garage.

Tools

  • Utility knife or scissors
  • Tape measure

Materials

  • Replacement bottom seal, sized to match your door width
  • Channel lubricant

How to Do It

  1. Measure the width of your garage door so you know the length to cut the new seal.
  2. Open the door to a comfortable working height and locate the metal channel running along the bottom edge.
  3. Slide the old seal out of the channel from one end, pulling it free along its full length.
  4. Cut the new seal to the measured length.
  5. Apply lubricant to the channel, then slide the new seal in from one end until it spans the full width of the door.
  6. Lower the door and check that the seal sits flush against the floor with no gaps along its length.
