Geothermal Heat Pump
A geothermal heat pump moves heat between your home and a buried loop field to provide heating and cooling year-round. Keeping the loop fluid, pump, and refrigerant in good order protects the system's efficiency and prevents a slow leak from becoming a full failure.
Geothermal Heat Pump Tasks
- Check geothermal loop antifreeze level and pressure
Each spring, check the pressure gauges on your geothermal loop pump manifold and call your installer if any gauge reads outside the marked range.
- Clean geothermal loop pump strainer
Each spring, shut off the loop pump, close the isolation valves, remove the strainer housing, rinse the screen, and reinstall.
- Schedule geothermal heat pump tune-up
Book a licensed geothermal HVAC technician each fall to check refrigerant charge, clean the indoor coil, test the loop pump, and verify antifreeze concentration.
