Why It Matters

Water enters cracks, freezes, and turns small cracks into major fissures. A few dollars of sealer prevents thousands in repaving.

Tools

  • Stiff brush or leaf blower
  • Caulk gun (for tube filler)
  • Putty knife

Materials

  • Asphalt crack filler (caulk tube or pour bottle)

How to Do It

  1. Clear each crack of loose debris, dirt, and vegetation using a stiff brush or blower so the filler bonds to the asphalt rather than the debris.
  2. Apply asphalt crack filler directly into each crack from the caulk tube or pour bottle, slightly overfilling so the material can settle flush as it cures.
  3. Smooth any excess filler level with the surrounding surface using the tube nozzle or a putty knife.
  4. Keep vehicles off the sealed area until the filler has fully cured according to the product label, typically 24 hours.
