Air Conditioner
The air conditioner moves heat out of your home through an outdoor condenser and indoor air handler working together. Keeping both sides clear and draining properly protects your home from water damage and keeps the system running when summer demand is highest.
Air Conditioner Tasks
- Clean AC condenser unit
Each spring, shut off power at the disconnect, remove the top grille, and spray the fins with a garden hose from inside out to clear debris blocking airflow.
- Cover outdoor AC unit for winter
After the last AC run of the season, set a plywood square or top-only cover on the unit and weigh it down.
- Flush AC condensate drain line
Each fall, pour a cup of distilled vinegar into the condensate drain line near your indoor unit to clear algae and prevent water backup.
- Schedule AC tune-up
Book a licensed HVAC technician in spring, before peak demand, to check refrigerant, clean coils, and verify electrical components.
