CO Detector
CO detectors sense carbon monoxide from furnaces, appliances, and other combustion sources and sound an alarm before levels become dangerous. Keeping them tested, powered, and current ensures the sensor responds when it counts.
CO Detector Tasks
- Press test button on CO detectors
Press and hold the test button on each CO detector monthly until the alarm sounds, and replace any unit that fails or has reached its end-of-life date.
- Replace CO detector batteries
Each fall, replace the battery in every CO detector and press the test button to confirm it's working.
- Replace CO detector units
Check the manufacture date on the back of each CO detector; replace any unit older than 5 years.
