Deck
A deck extends your living space outdoors and takes constant exposure to sun, moisture, and foot traffic. Keeping the structure and finish in good shape protects against rot, instability, and the safety risks that follow.
Deck Tasks
- Inspect deck and railings for rot or looseness
Each spring, push and pull every railing, probe soft spots in the decking with a screwdriver, and inspect the ledger board for separation or rusted fasteners.
- Reseal wood deck
Every two years in spring, sweep and clean the deck, let it dry 24-48 hours, then apply sealer or stain with a roller or pump sprayer.
