Lawnmower
A lawnmower cuts grass and keeps a yard tidy through the growing season. Regular maintenance protects the engine, deck, and battery so it starts reliably and cuts cleanly year after year.
Lawnmower Tasks
- Add fuel stabilizer and run mower for 5 minutes
Each fall, add fuel stabilizer to the tank at the bottle's mix ratio, then run the engine for 5 minutes so treated fuel reaches the carburetor.
- Change lawnmower oil
Each spring, warm the engine briefly, drain the old oil into a pan, and refill with the grade specified in your mower's manual.
- Clean and remove grass clippings from mower
Each fall, disconnect the spark plug, tip the mower, and scrape the underside clean with a putty knife before storing.
- Reinstall lawnmower battery
Each spring, pull the battery from indoor storage, charge it fully if needed, reinstall it in the mower, and confirm the safety key and power work.
- Remove and store lawnmower battery indoors
Before the first freeze, disconnect the lawnmower battery, bring it indoors, and check its charge level periodically through winter.
- Replace lawnmower air filter
Each spring, open the filter housing on your lawnmower engine, swap in a matching replacement filter, and snap the cover closed.
- Replace lawnmower spark plugs
Each spring, disconnect the plug wire, swap in a new gapped spark plug, and torque it snug to restore clean starts and full engine power.
- Sharpen lawnmower blades
Each spring, disconnect the spark plug, remove the blade, sharpen it with a file or bench grinder at the original angle, balance it, and reinstall.
