Replace refrigerator water filter
Short answer
Every six months, locate your refrigerator's filter, twist or push it out, install a replacement, and flush 2–3 gallons of water to clear carbon dust.
Why It Matters
Expired filters stop removing contaminants and can grow bacteria. Many models also slow water output as the filter clogs.
Materials
- Replacement water filter (same model as the existing filter)
How to Do It
- Find your filter: check the upper-right interior wall, the base grille, or the back of the refrigerator.
- Turn the old filter counterclockwise or push the release button, depending on your model, and pull it straight out.
- Insert the new filter and twist clockwise or push until it clicks into place.
- Run 2–3 gallons of water through the dispenser to flush carbon dust before drinking.
