Why It Matters

Grease-saturated filters can't capture cooking vapors and become a fire hazard when grease drips onto burners.

Tools

  • Sink or large basin
  • Scrub brush or sponge
  • Dishwasher (if filters are dishwasher-safe)

Materials

  • Degreaser or dish soap

How to Do It

  1. Slide the mesh filters out of the range hood housing; most unlatch by pushing a tab or sliding toward you.
  2. Fill a sink or large basin with hot water and add degreaser or dish soap.
  3. Submerge the filters and soak for 10 to 15 minutes to loosen built-up grease.
  4. Scrub both sides with a brush or sponge until the mesh is clear.
  5. Alternatively, run dishwasher-safe filters through a normal dishwasher cycle instead of hand-washing.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with hot water, then let the filters dry completely before reinstalling.
  7. Slide the dry filters back into the hood until they latch securely.
