Why It Matters

On recirculating OTR models, the charcoal filter absorbs odors before air vents back into the kitchen. An expired filter stops working and lets smells linger.

How to Do It

  1. Confirm your microwave is an over-the-range recirculating model. If it vents to the outside, it has no charcoal filter and this task does not apply.
  2. Locate the vent grille along the top of the microwave.
  3. Remove the one or two screws securing the grille, then lift or swing it open.
  4. Slide out the old charcoal filter.
  5. Snap the replacement filter into the same position.
  6. Reattach the grille and replace the screws.
